Premiere Commissions Night
Talkies is a not-for-profit volunteer-led touring cinema, bringing communities together through regular film events. Based around Bounds Green, Palmers Green, Enfield and Southgate.
Last years screening of ET in Broomfield Park and Busters Shorts accompanied by live organ music were definitely among the highlights of last year along with the success of our HERE Film Festival where we screen the projects we have commissioned and more.
We are now in the third year of our commissions. As we are a not for profit organisation we put any profit we do make into new and young film makers. Our only stipulation is that the project they make has to be shot locally. We are putting Palmers Green on the short film map!
We try to make our screenings unique events when possible with Q&A’s, live music, short film selections or presentations giving the audience a deeper insight to the film. We try where possible to create an event around a local link to a project. For instance last year we screened AMY and the director, Asif Kapadia came down for a Q&A. He used to be a Southgate boy and several of his teachers came down to say hello, which made the event even more special.
We want to really bring the community together through our love of film. We show a diverse range of films and try to make each evening a unique event. As we are volunteer led we are a great place for people new to area to make friends, get to know the area, what a great place it is to live and what it has to offer.
