Building the Ark

March 2018

Eight years ago our six year old daughter Jessica sadly passed away. She was a very happy child who loved being with her friends, going to school and watching TV. However, in the background she was regularly in hospital or needed round the clock care from us at home. Jessica was born with a life threatening medical condition that meant she could not eat, sit, stand or breathe without assistance.

Managing day to day with this new reality of parenthood was difficult. However, it became easier when we were introduced to our local children’s hospice Noah’s Ark. They provided a play specialist who was able to adapt so many activities to suit Jessica’s capabilities and bring endless attention and smiles. As we juggled being parents and carers the respite this provided was invaluable especially as we knew time was ultimately not to be on our side.

There are over 1,200 babies and children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions in North and Central London but, tragically, no children’s hospice building. Through their Building The Ark campaign, Noah’s Ark are raising funds to construct North and Central London’s only children’s hospice building.

Every year we run a fundraiser to spread awareness of the work Noah’s Ark do. This year at The Winchmore pub with the continued help of our friends and families we ran a Back to the Future themed evening raising £4000 mainly through a raffle and auction of kindly donated gifts from local companies.

We believe Noah’s Ark make a real difference to local families and hope their hospice will be an integral part of our community for years to come.
